My name is Kyle Romano, and I live in Milton, Georgia. I am seventeen years old and am going into my senior year at Cambridge High School – a 6A Division school, which is about 2000 Students. I have been wrestling since I was ten and although I have not made it to the top spot yet on the podium in high school (I did in my youth), I came in fifth my Freshman year in the GA State Tournament and then runner-up in both my Sophomore and Junior years. Although I was extremely disappointed in the outcome this year and hate failure, I am working harder than I ever have to get the top prize in 2021. It is kind of hard to do during these times, especially since my gym/wrestling clubs are closed, but I have been working out in my basement with one of my teammates every day for a couple of hours. I also have been running and lifting several times a week. Throughout my high school years, I was always continually debating in my head as to whether I wanted to wrestle at the collegiate level. I am the starting cornerback for our football team, and I am very dedicated to my academics (I currently have a 3.9 GPA) so, although I LOVE wrestling, I was never 100% focused on it. Also, since I have not secured the State title yet, I just didn't know if I was "worthy" enough to be on a college team. That is probably something that a coach doesn't want to hear, but it is honest. As I witness everything that Covid-19 has kept me away from, I am more confident than ever that not only do I want to wrestle in college but that I also have what it takes to make it to the next level, especially if I have the right coach to take me there. I am extremely dedicated (5:00 am workouts twice a week with my trainer, 6:00 am lifting sessions for football, wrestling practice after school M-Th with my sparring partner – Gavin Kane (who is ranked number 1 in the country at the 170lb. level and has taught me a lot), tournaments on Fridays and Saturdays and workouts at my club on Sundays.). I know that many wrestlers put this work in, so maybe I am not that unique. With that said, though, I do want you to know that I am respectful, reliable, coachable, driven, and a very supportive teammate. (My coach, Don St. James – GA ALL American Wrestler), recently nominated me for the Positive Athlete Award for the state of GA. I also know that there are kids out there vying for a spot on your team that may have better records than me at this stage. To that, I would say that I am only continuing to improve and have not reached my full potential yet. I have not hit my peak, and I feel confident that if you take a chance on me, you can get me there. Thanks in advance, Coach. Please feel free to call me at 678-591-6681 if you would like to talk, or you can email me back.
