One of my goals in life is to wrestle at the collegiate level and I believe I will be a great asset to your team and school. Wrestling has made me a strong athlete, a strong person, and a strong leader to my teammates. Unfortunately, the pandemic of 2020 put a damper on my season as a sophomore. I was heading to Fresh/Soph state where I felt good at placing first in my bracket. Due to the unexpected cancellation of the season, I had to adjust my training because of COVID. However, it has not changed my desire to continue wrestling through college.
Wrestling has made me a strong athlete. I have been grappling since I was eight years old. My coach Aurelio De La Rosa taught me the martial art of Luta Livre Jujitsu. It was the start of learning how to focus and strive for more. When I was in sixth grade I joined my first folk style wrestling club. I enjoyed the change, and it had fueled my desire to learn more about the sport and different techniques.
Wrestling, through discipline and hard work, has helped me become a strong person. One of the greatest lessons I have learned in wrestling is that my end result is determined by what effort I put into practice: a lesson that has applied in both wrestling and in life.
Wrestling has also helped me become a strong leader. I have been able to help lead my teammates through struggles on and off the mat and have had the privilege of coaching younger wrestlers. Another influence in my life which helped me become a strong person and leader was spending summers at a Christian camp called Silver Birch Ranch. The camp has taught me about leadership, responsibilities, and communication skills. I love spending my time learning and growing as a camper, but also being a volunteer counselor to the younger campers.
What I can bring to your school and program is a person that can focus, listen, and connect to a variety of people in positive ways. I am currently undecided in my field of studies. I do not see this as an obstacle, but as an opportunity to keep learning on what develops my interests. I have overcome challenges that helped me become who I am today. I welcome the opportunity to show you who I am and what I can provide for your college, and look forward to learning what your college can provide for me and my future.
Thank you, and I am looking forward to hearing from you.
