As a dual sport athlete, I have learned a lot about myself and family through football and wrestling. Both sports have taught me lessons on the field and the mat, but also outside of sport in life. In wrestling, I have learned that everything is on you. Whether you win or lose, you will always have the support of your teammates cheering you on and encouraging you to win the match. In my experience with football, I have created bonds and a brotherhood with teammates. I have learned that in football it takes more than one person, it takes a whole team. After my freshman year of school, I made a hard decision to let go of football. I wrestled at 106 lbs, placing 6th at State my freshman year. I chose to focus on wrestling, because I know that’s what I’m best at and I wanted to keep my focus on getting better. Even though it was a difficult decision, I believe I made the right choice.
I have been wrestling for 11 years. After the first time I ever stepped on that mat, I fell in love with the sport. I realized that wrestling was meant for me. With the dedication I have, good work ethic, and being mentally and physically strong, I knew I was going to make a name for myself. I also enjoy the bonds that I have and continue to create with people I meet. I have been training hard to see what I am capable of and how far I can go. I want to prove not only to myself, but to show others that I am willing to put the work in for college wrestling. I believe that I am one of the greatest wrestlers and would love to continue my dream attending college and doing what I Iove.
I have learned in wrestling that I am very mentally strong. When it comes to winning or losing, I can keep my emotions in check. Win or lose, I like to recap about my match with my coaches so I can learn what I need to do to do better. I am always looking for more to be great instead of average from any of the coaching I receive. I have also learned that on my feet, I am very technical with my footwork and hand fighting. I have learned that I am good with my technique on top and bottom. I excel on top when I put my legs in, because I am a very lengthy wrestler. I have learned to use my body in ways for me to turn opponents and to ride them out to score points. When it comes to bottom technique work, I am very strong with getting up and out of bad positions. I keep good, constant movement so that my opponents cannot hold me down for long. I can quickly get to my escape or maybe even a reversal with the plan of scoring more points from my feet or on top position. I feel like I would a great asset to any team because I feel that I am very coachable, and I am a great supporter to my teammates.
