My name is Elias Garza, I’m a junior at Warsaw Community High School in Warsaw, Indiana. This will be my 6th year wrestling. This season my biggest goal is to be a state qualifier. Being a 2x Semi-State qualifier, never have made it to ticket round, I’m confident I’ll meet my goal. I’m still nervous and still anxious about it, but I’m confident and ready. I go to lots of ”off-season” tournaments and clinics. I also do MMA over summer, and planning on BJJ tournaments summer of 2023. I like to train and practice in my free time, or bond with the team and coaches. My coaches are I are very close. I look up to them, and trust them to not just make me a better wrestler, but a better human. They have helped me grow up in a short amount of time, and for that I appreciate them and grateful. As a junior, the underclassmen look up to me, I do my best to help them as wrestlers and as people. I know my place as a teammate, and don’t cross the line with acting like a coach. Wrestling is my everything, and I’m learning how to manage it into my life better. I’m learning how to be a son, a student, a friend, and an athlete. With a GPA of 3.38; and with one honors class, I feel like I’m doing a good job of time-management. I feel like I work as hard as I can, but have a problem with thinking I’m not enough, or not doing enough. Battling with this, I’m taking my time of getting out of my head, and being on the mat and back to reality. I’ve had trouble in the past with handling my emotions. I now know what proper sportsmanship, and proper respect towards my team looks like. There’s 2 things I think about before I step on the mat; ‘composure’, and, ‘make him wrestle MY match’. Wrestling has changed my life, and how I am as a person.
