Personal Statement
My name is Bryce Clement, class of 2023. I am interested in wrestling at either 133 or 141lb in a college program. I was the Far East Conference Champion in 2020 at 108 pounds, and in 2023 at 141 lb. Far East is an athletic conference for international and US military base schools in the Asia Pacific region. Unfortunately, my sophomore and junior seasons were canceled due to Covid.
My coach, Rei Suzuki, was a D1 wrestler at Lehigh University. I wrestle off-season at Senshu University, (a top 10 college wrestling program in Japan) coached by Mitsuru Sato, a gold medalist at the 1988 Korea Olympics, and the Japan Wrestling Team Head Coach for the 2012 London Olympics. I have been wrestling since 4th grade, and while most of my experience has been in freestyle wrestling, I do have experience in folk style from camps in the US during my summers.
I push myself academically with rigorous courses so I can build good study habits and be able to balance school and wrestling in college. I have a 3.89 cumulative GPA, a 1480 SAT, and will have taken 8 AP classes by the time I graduate. I am also training hard in wrestling, to compete at the collegiate level.
In college, I want to continue my passion for wrestling. I know college wrestling is not easy, but I am willing to put in the work. Education is also a high priority because I want to set myself up for a career. Areas of study I am interested in are finance, computer science, and business
A trait I bring to the mat is curiosity. I always want to learn a new move or technique to improve and expand my wrestling, so I can gain an advantage over my opponents. I pay attention to every detail of the moves I learn, so I can execute them on high-level competition. Because of my desire for learning, I always give 100% effort with training, drilling, and live wrestling.
Discipline is something that wrestling has made me develop. Going for a run even if I'm tired. Consistently giving my all in training. Cutting back on calories even if I'm hungry so I can make weight. The discipline that wrestling has helped me build has also benefitted me academically, with studying consistently, managing my time, and focusing in class.
Because of my curiosity, discipline, hard work, and passion, I think I will be a great fit for your wrestling program. If you are interested or have any questions about me, please contact me.
