I like being mentally and physically strong enough to do things that most people can’t do, and wrestling challenges me both ways. It's like playing physical chess. I joined a middle-school wrestling club last year as a way to stay fit for soccer in the off-season and my club coach talked the high school coach into taking a look at me. I’m pretty sure Coach Green didn't think I would make it through that first practice. I’m not going to lie, I almost got sick that night. It was next level hard, but Coach let me keep coming back and this year I made the Varsity team as a freshman.
I’m not the most skilled wrestler yet but I earned my spot by using the strengths I do have (instincts, speed, stamina). My wrestling IQ will catch up because I will put the work into learning the sport. My current wrestling goal is to make it to state as a sophomore next year so my grandpa can come watch when it's safe to travel again. He wrestled for his national team in Iran and I'm excited for him to coach me live. My collegiate goals are similar to what I am doing right now in high school. I want to go to a college that will challenge me as a student and athlete so that when hard things happen in my career and life, I’ll be tough enough to push through and hopefully have enough reserves to help others too.
