Personal Statement

When I was young I never really paid attention to sports and I was not talented. I would try sports for fun but I would never really stick with anything. In 2nd grade I would try wrestling and would like it but I was not good, I would rarely win and got medals because nobody was in my weight class. I would find myself having success in 8th grade due to my experience only losing 4 matches. At the end of my 8th I would hyper extend my elbow and find myself unable to do any post season events, after this year I was excited and confident as I headed into my freshman year I would make varsity at 144 and 138 but had a rough year only winning 10 out of 31 matches. In the final tournament of the season I would break my hand and would not be able to participate in any post season events. As I was injured I went crazy as I realized I need to put more work more if I wanted to be a good wrestler and so I decided to commit fully and set my goals from what made me happy at the moment like video games, hanging out with friends, and so on. I would do everything that my injury would allow me to do doing lots of band work and cardio at the end of the school year. Once I got my cast off I would up my training and would do lots of lifting amd cardio. After this I would be in the best shape of my life and so towards the beginning of summer I would start a practice with some of my coach's to keep up on wrestling skills and conditioning. Then on one of our practices I was wrestling with one of our coaches and I would land funny on my leg and pop after that my leg would hurt like crazy but I pushed through it and after a week my leg felt fine I would continue my training but my knee just felt odd, I would ignore this and keep going that summer I would so a camp with Brent Metcalf and I would also go to Jeff jordan camp. When I returned to the first week of school I would still be in pain my parent concerned took me to a doctor they took x rays and I was fine another week goes by my knee gets worse we go back and they order a mri. Another week later we got the mri and it had turned out I tore my meniscus and would require surgery. Devastated I was in a bad spot and out of luck I would go on to have the surgery in which they would be able to repair it but not to the same I will always live with knee pain now, but after a while I started to feel better as I helped my team in the room coaching them with everything I learned in that summer it helped me make it through the long 8 month recovery ahead of me I would use the time of wrestling practice to do limited exercise and coach teammates getting smarter and smarter. My team would go on to win conference for the first time since our wrestling team had been rebooted into high school 4 years ago. It was exciting to see my teammates success and be able watch them grow. When at the banquet I was so happy seeing many of my buddies get called out and reach their goals, it was also a highlight when my coach had called me out saying that I was the most dedicated person on the team saying that I put lots of work in during the summer and then I got it all taken away by injury, but despite this I was at every practice and every meet as well as extra practices always helping teammates and others. With that and not being able to wrestle for the season I was fired up and ready for next season and so once I was given the go ahead I started to put the work in like crazy doing 3-4 hours of working out everyday and also I started going down to Saint jhons to wrestle kids at Coach Masas camp, wrestling some of the best in the state and the nation. With that we are at the now I have just signed up for the michigan summer states and the grappler fall classic looking ro place high and impress colleges. I look to win states this year and next year at my division as well as try to qualify for a fargo team. I look forward to the future the wrestling bring me no matter what it is as wrestling can truly take you anywhere in life.
