I started wrestling when I was 6 years old and in 1st grade. My parents tried to get me to play hockey since my dad was a hockey player, and I really hated wearing ice skates! Hockey was not in my future. My parents asked me if I wanted to go to my school's "give wrestling a try", and I ended up liking it well enough to give it a real try. I fell in love with wrestling after taking 3rd in state in my weight class the very next year!
Over the years I've had many wrestling achievements which I've been proud of. In elementary school, my favorite wrestling moments were the first time I won a match in a national tournament, and then the first time I placed. That motivated me to keep working hard, and when I won the Minnesota state triple crown in 6th grade, I was so happy and that really pushed me even more. I was so proud of being asked to be on the schoolboy duals team in 7th grade, so when COVID hit, it was really disappointing. Probably my bigger highlights in high school wrestling have been being the runner up at the 2023 Folkstyle Nationals, without even having a coach by my side. Taking first in MN State Greco and runner-up in freestyle, and 5th at Northern Plains last season was also great, as well as taking 3rd in MN State freestyle and 6th in Southeastern Regionals this year. Those achievements ensured me a spot at Fargo for last year and this year. I just finished up at Fargo (1st year Junior, 138#) and although I didn't place, I went pretty deep and was happy with how I wrestled for the most part, going 6-2, only losing to the #10 U.S. ranked kid (and Penn State commit)! I'm also proud of placing 4th at this season's Minnesota State Tournament in a super tough weight class (127#).
I was selected to be our team's captain from my teammates and my coaches for both my junior (2023-24) and senior (2024-25) seasons. Moreover, I am very proud that I was unanimously requested for the position and take it very seriously. I learned a lot from my junior year and have many ideas planned this season for team culture and bonding that I'm excited to share with the team!
I have typically been an average student, struggling with ADHD and information processing. That said, without assistance, I have maintained nearly a 3.0 and now have a plan in place (504) to help me get to the next level. I am dedicated to doing even better my senior year with this help in place and with my own will and determination to exceed expectations. I will do my best to graduate high school with a 3.2 GPA, and this is my plan. In college, I plan to use my newly acquired skills (from my great teachers who are helping with my 504 plan) to begin and end my college career as well as I possibly can, and I plan to graduate with a 3.4 GPA. I am realistic about some of the challenges I have academically, but I never make excuses. I just work hard to try to find ways to work around any of the roadblocks that God gave me.
I would be a great asset to your college wrestling program because I am one of the hardest workers in the room, I'm always working on my technique and issues that have to be improved upon, I'm extremely coachable, and I absolutely love the sport. You also will never have to worry about what I'm doing when I'm not wrestling, because I have never been, and will never be a troublemaker. I live clean and am not influenced by the choices of others. Also, I bring people along with me, and l and try to make both myself everyone around me better inside and outside of the wrestling room. I have really high values and will always be the person to volunteer to do anything that is needed by the coach, the program, or my teammates.
I look forward to seeing where my wrestling journey takes me, and what school ends up being "home" to me!
