My name is Ashdyn Lee Urban, and I am a Junior at Ruidoso High School. My collegiate goal is to be the first in my family to receive a degree through a university and become a role model for my younger siblings and to set a standard for them. I'm still trying to figure out what field of study I want to explore but with guidance from my family and trust spiritually, I'm sure I will figure it out before my Senior year.
What makes me a good candidate is my work ethic, integrity, ambition and determination. I am strong spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically which I have learned throughout my years from my family. I have been taught to be a man of my word and to strive to be a better person and athlete every single day.
My character has been molded by my father, mother, grandparents, aunts and uncles throughout my life which they all have taught me life lessons throughout the years. My father is a Patrol Lieutenant at our local Police Department and Head Coach for High School Wrestling, and he has stressed to me the importance of hard work, high morals and integrity. My mother owns her own business and has taught me to be hard working, truthful and honest. I have been blessed with a big family who is close and loving.
Athletically I have wrestled my whole life and have competed in and out of state at multiple national events. I made varsity my 8th grade year and became a District Champion which qualified me for the New Mexico State Tournament. My experience placing at State made me realize how much love I have for the sport. I made the tough decision to focus on wrestling this year and quit every other sport to ensure that I excel in sport. I was given the title of team captain by my head coach based on my ability to lead by example. I made it my goal to earn my leadership position every single day I stepped on the mat. Academically I'm making it my goal to graduate with an overall grade point average of 3.5 or higher because being a student athlete means more to me than anything else I can achieve on the mat. I know this will not be an easy task, but I am motivated more than I have ever been in my life and am ready for the challenge to achieve my goals. In the offseason, I wrestle freestyle and Greco Roman and will wrestle for Team New Mexico in Fargo, North Dakota.
