I’m not the typical wrestler that has been wrestling since kindergarten and only does wrestling. I started wrestling in 6th grade and fell in love with it, wrestling on a new school merger modified team in 7th grade. With my experience with Jiu Jitsu I quickly got used to the sport and had a 12-2-1 record and knew that I wanted more. That next season I took a physical test to be able to wrestle on varsity in 8th grade and wrestled off and beat a senior for my spot on the team. After a tough 8-9 grade year, my varsity record was nothing to be proud about and I stepped everything up to the next level. My late start wrestling made me only work twice as hard as everyone else. Lifting weights a few times a week became a 6 day routine, and wrestling only a few months a year became twice a week at Curby in Troy for all of my 10th grade year, which we did not have a high school season. I attended my first FS/GR tournament and went 3-2 and placed 3rd, and I attended NAWE nationals and went 3-6 but I was not even close to satisfied.
Now a captain on my varsity team, I’ve spent the past few months recruiting and bringing new wrestlers to our open mats, and can’t wait to finally get back on the mats this season and prove how much I’ve developed as a wrestler.
Along with my immense commitment to wrestling what makes me stand out is that not only am I a 4.0 student, but I also started on offense and special teams on my football team and helped bring us to the 2021 Class D State Semifinals, as well as winning Sectional & regional championships.
When I’m not on the mat I’m hard at work studying or leading my boy scout troop, as Senior Patrol Leader. My goals for the upcoming years are to finish my Eagle Scout, qualify for high school states, place at Freestyle/Greco States and compete at Fargo this year.
