I started out my high school wrestling career with low experience, low athleticism, and a bad lazy attitude. In only three years of high school wrestling that I have learned so much, not in the sport itself but in life. Such as discipline, overcoming adversity, trusting ones own abilities, and having the mindset of becoming better everyday by pushing myself and my teammates. My freshman season I went 5-26: I thought, I learned a lot and I know I can improve next year. My Sophomore season I went 5-16: things didn't plan how I thought they would. Five days after my birthday (08/26/2018) I was diagnosed with appendicitis, after healing a report came back discussing my surgery. During my surgery it was found that I had a cancerous tumor around where my appendix used to be, I was then diagnosed with cancer. A month later I was taken back into surgery to have half my colon removed along with 10-15 cm of my small intestine, my surgeon said that I shouldn't wrestle until late January but I knew that wasn't going to happen. The earliest time that I could wrestle was in 3 weeks, during that 3 weeks I was told to do no physical activity, but I knew I had to make weight due to the 17lbs of weight that I gained after surgery going from 130lbs to 147lbs and my weight class was 126 at the time. I finished out my season and I knew that I was going to have to work a lot harder in the off-season to make a difference. My Junior season I went 27-20 and I became a District Qualifier: I know that I need to work harder than I did last year. I can't wait for my senior season.
