My name is Mason Basara. I just finished my junior year at Northampton Area High School where I was on the varsity wrestling team and finished the year with a cumulative weighted GPA of 3.973. I started wrestling in the VEWL, our elementary league in the Lehigh Valley, when I was 6 years old. I really enjoyed the tough physical workouts, learning the technique, and the other kids who were on my team. In fact, a majority of my varsity team this past year was made up of kids from my elementary team. We are a close team who supports and pushes each other to be better during the season and in the off-season. Over the years, I have had some very skilled and accomplished workout partners who have been district placers, regional placers, and state qualifiers and medalists. In the Lehigh Valley we have a lot of opportunities to learn from the best in the sport through camps, clubs, and team workouts where people like John Hughes, Jordan Wood, Roman Bravo Young, Darian Cruz, and many more, teach us about the sport. I have taken advantage of every opportunity I have had and feel that this has made me a better wrestler and person because of it.
In college, I would like to continue to develop as a wrestler but most important for me is to find a school that will challenge me academically and athletically. I want to pursue an engineering degree and possibly continue to get a master’s degree directly after my undergraduate degree.
