Wrestling has been a major part of my life since I started when I was in the 2nd grade. This sport didn't come naturally to me as I had many tough years of going to matches and tournaments, being overwhelmed and out-matched against other wrestlers. Coming out of the "covid" year and heading into 8th grade is where things started to change for me. I was the only member of the junior high team and with that, schools didn't send their teams for duel meets for just one match. So I went an entire year of working with a small group of high school wrestlers and learning through each practice, through each weight lifting session and from observing each wrestlers approach to their matches of what it was going to take from me to get the most out of myself. I've been part of helping to rebuild by recruiting wrestlers to join our team as we've gone from having 1 junior high wrestler and 9 high school wrestlers to having over 40 wrestlers in our practice room. It has been so rewarding to be part of this team and culture and I'm extremely anxious to get my junior year started.
Through all these years of wrestling, the character that this sport has helped build inside of me and the work ethic that I have taken from this sport and used towards school has helped me to maintain a high gpa as well as make the honors list in 10th grade. There is no replacing this sport and I look forward to continuing this journey beyond high school. I will be bringing in an open mind, lead by example attitude and a coachable approach to whichever school I attend as I continue my education in the engineering field.
Going beyond high school and college, I plan on giving back to wrestling, a sport that has helped me in so many ways. Whether it's by being a booster or possibly coaching down the road, I want to make sure others can get rewarded for hard work and can find the comradery of their teammates like I have.
