Hunter Johnson '22 Recruiting Profile

I believe I am a great option for any coach because of my willingness to learn and passion for the game. I believe this is truly where I separate myself. In learning, I have realized from a young age basketball is not completely about physicality. Basketball intelligence can take a good player and make them a great player. I hope that during my time playing at a collegiate level, I can learn more complex plays and schemes than what I am currently aware of. Leadership is often an overused word, but to me it means something different. Being a team leader, which I believe I am and will develop into, means being the first in the gym and last out. I consider this to be leading by example.

Throughout my high school career, I have had success. My favorite memory was made during the 2019-2020 season. Our team (South Decatur Jr./Sr. High School) posted a 24-2 record before winning sectionals. Unfortunately, our season was ended abruptly because of COVID-19. Yet, even with this less-than-ideal ending, I made memories with my teammates that are not to be forgotten. I even learned about my game and more specifically how to play fast passed “run and gun” offense. This was an effective scheme for the talents of our team as we ended the season in the top six among all high school basketball teams in points per game (87.8 - MaxPreps).

Looking into my collegiate future I aspire to not only win national championships but grow into a student-athlete who is gaining from my studies and play. I want to play for a team that is well organized and focused yet retains a coaching staff willing to drive me both academically and athletically. I want to be apart of a professional organization.
