My name is Grant McMeekin. I am a senior in high school with a deep passion for baseball and a strong commitment to academic success. Over the past 13 years, my love for baseball has only grown. Some may say Obsessed. I am highly competitive and I have dedicated my life to baseball and I’m eager to continue pursuing what I love through college and with some luck beyond.
I started playing baseball at 4 years old. I play various positions on the field, primarily focusing on catching, first base, and pitching. I’ve developed a strong understanding of the game and honed my skills. I have my umpire certification, and I genuinely enjoy umpiring in my spare time. This experience has not only deepened my understanding of the rules but also positively impacted my game by enhancing my skills while staying connected to the sport I love. Balancing School, training, work, home chores is not easy but I have mastered it.
My dedication to the game is reflected in my commitment to continuous improvement through practice and hard work. My mental game is solid. I have received recognition through awards, newspapers, and social media. As a freshman at Mountain Ridge, I was named captain of the JV team and later brought up to varsity. I was awarded Silver Slugger, lettered sophomore year, and was named Pitcher of the Year during my junior year. I lettered again junior year at Deer Valley. I had the opportunity to represent Arizona in the 2023 Future Games. I have won a home run derby and played a part in taking Deer Valley to the playoffs after 14-year years.
In May 2024, while up to bat, I fouled off a changeup and broke my hamate bone. The doctor diagnosed it as a chronic fracture that required immediate surgery. Less than a week later, I underwent surgery to prevent permanent damage. The surgery was successful, and the bone was removed. I healed very well, though it was unfortunate timing just before summer ball. I have made a full recovery, returned to my normal training, and am regaining my weight.
Nutrition is very important to me. I love food and try it all. I stay active by going to the gym daily. Everything revolves around baseball and how to improve myself. Growing up in a salon and spa environment, I’ve developed a strong belief in self-care. I enjoy visiting wellness spas and regularly participate in recovery treatments, including red light therapy, oxygen chamber sessions, and massages. I value and enjoy the importance of recovery and self-care.
Sophomore year was particularly challenging, and my grades suffered as a result. Recognizing that I needed to make a change, my family decided for me to switch to online studies. This shift was not easy, and I was not happy about it at the time, but I understood that it was necessary to prioritize my classes and set myself up for success.
It has allowed me to develop good study habits and a strong work ethic, which I believe will serve me well in college and beyond. My goal is to attend college academically strong and excited to balance my studies, baseball, and social life. I committed myself to improving academically over 2 summers and throughout my junior year, taking additional classes while attending school online. This commitment led to a significant improvement in my GPA, I continue to work hard to raise my GPA further by enrolling in dual enrollment courses, and planning to take more dual enrollment courses in the second semester.
One of my goals is to be the first in my immediate family to attend college. I am determined to continue my education while pursuing my passion for baseball at the collegiate level. My goal is to earn a bachelor's degree in business finance and possibly sports law. I believe that my experiences had prepared me to face the demands of college both academically, athletically, and socially. My perseverance, work ethic, and love for the game are qualities that I am eager to bring to a college baseball program.
I am excited about my future and the possibility of contributing to a team that values sportsmanship, hard work, determination, and a commitment to excellence. I am looking forward to building more relationship’s. I am confident that my journey has equipped me with the skills and mindset needed to succeed in college and beyond.
