My name is Trayson Hicks. I am a senior at Jasper High School (AR). Shortstop is my primary position, however, I have a lot of experience at second, first and the outfield. I am also the top pitcher on my high school team. I have played baseball since I was eight years old. I started in the city league and made the all-star team each year and played USSSA travel ball at the AA level until age 13. At thirteen, I started individual training and began playing on a major/AAA level USSSA travel team. This took a lot of dedication because the training facility and team were almost two hours from my home. I was a homeschool student so that allowed my schedule to be flexible.
I decided I would like to play on the local high school team my Junior year. I was selected to the all-conference, all-region, all-state, and all-state tournament team. I was the unanimous selection for all-state by all the coaches in my district. This past summer I played on the local American Legion baseball team. Playing American Legion ball was a unique experience. It was like we were playing for the pride of the community.
All of these experiences make me believe that I will be a good candidate for college baseball. I have had to overcome a "homeschool kid" stigma in some cases. I have been the kid from the country playing with the big city kids. I have been the new kid on the team a few times. I believe in the end the only labels I had were, he's a good player and a competitor.
When I am not on the baseball field or training, you will find me with a guitar in my hand. My parents did not want me to burn out on baseball so they made sure I found time to do other hobbies. I found music. I can play several instruments. I also enjoy hunting and fishing.
