My name is Patrick DeMarco and I am 16 years old. I am a freshman at Sierra Canyon School located in Chatsworth, California. I became interested in baseball when I was 3 years old, even before I started playing T-Ball. When I was that young my Dad would play catch with me in the backyard. He bought me a big plastic bat and he would soft toss to me for hours. We would do this all the time because I liked it so much. Starting to play when I was young was a big influence on how much I liked the sport. My parents have also influenced me a great deal. My father was always coaching me and supporting my dream. Both parents have always been there and supported me through every good game and bad game no matter what. Another influence is everyone who has helped me throughout the years, like my coaches who have worked hard and made me the player I am today. My teammates, especially the upperclassmen, who have taught me about teamwork and commitment, yet still having fun playing the game.
Some things I have learned about myself throughout my 12 years of playing baseball is that I am extremely competitive and it’s really important to me to perform well. One of the things I hate most is losing, although I understand its a part of the game. I’ve also learned that I really like playing a team sport because I like working together and bonding with my teammates. I always put the team first and make an extra effort to be a team leader. I’m extremely committed to baseball and work really hard practicing my skill and doing my pitching drills.
At school my goal is to do my best in every class and I’m always striving for A’s. Academics are really important for me to get accepted to a good college. In college I will have the same work ethic, because doing well in college sets you up for the work world. Although baseball is a huge part of what I do, it doesn't define me as person. I try hard to be well rounded in all aspects and live by the words that effort equals results.
