Connor Poelking '24 Recruiting Profile

For me, it has always been about baseball.  My love for the game and true understanding of competition and success came to me at age 9.  My 9U SoCal travel ball team won the West Coast Zone World Series.  And soon after that experience, it was off to Cooperstown for my life long dream of competing in the most historic 12U baseball tournament in America.  From that point on, I was ready to dedicate myself to become a more complete baseball player.  Along the way, I’ve learned that hard work, determination, persistence and holding myself accountable are the keys to achieving my goal of playing baseball at the highest level possible.  

That’s what drives me  to want to better myself by going to the gym, getting my tee work in, doing my long toss program and running sprints up and down my street. The competitor in me loves the grind, because my parents taught me the harder I work the more I can achieve.   

My experience as a catcher has taught me the mental part of the game. For example it has made me a better base runner. Using my knowledge and understanding from behind the plate has made my reads better and my jumps quicker.  I’m always doing my best to learn from my coaches and my mentors to make myself a more complete baseball player. They taught me that my work ethic, faith and keeping a positive attitude is what I can control on the field and off the field.  Excelling on the baseball field and beyond is extremely important to me and I truly understand the commitment that lies ahead.  I am a student of the game and I will always push myself to get better and smarter. 

My future goals include attending a college or university that offers a great business program while also providing me with an opportunity to play baseball where I can be a team player and make a positive impact.
