Personal Statement

I have been playing lacrosse since I was 8 years old.  I am a highly motivated student with a 4.0 GPA in honors classes.  I am on the STEM track with a goal completing both AP Chemistry and AP Calculus in high school.    I know that playing in college is a once in a lifetime opportunity that could change my whole life.

I have excellent stick skills using both hands and excel at passing and cutting.   I have excellent speed and see the field very well.   I consider myself a selfless teammate and a team leader and try to lead by example while also encouraging my teammates.  I am very coachable and strive to be one of the hardest working players and one of the hardest working recruits you’ll find.

In September 2016 I was selected to be a peer mentor for El Dorado Hills Youth Lacrosse.   I spent 4 hours of peer mentoring teaching younger children the sport of lacrosse and lacrosse fundamentals through our one day “Learn to Lax" Coaches Clinic.  I was nominated by my coaches to manage a passing and stick skill clinic with a fellow player. This experience greatly enhanced my leadership and communication skills and the community service time qualified me for a California Junior Scholarship Federation award.

In the classroom, I study hard and maintain a high GPA.  I have completed several volunteer projects and I have attended a Biology Summer Camp at The University of California at Davis.   I also have leadership roles in two clubs in high school, "The Sunshine for Seniors Club" and "The Shriners Hospital Club."

I want to attend a college where I can excel in the classroom and in lacrosse. I am open to all options and want to ultimately find the right college match at the highest level of competition possible. I hope to become a great role model to all my peers and make my parents proud.

This program included both classroom and field study of insects, animals and the natural sciences. We travelled overnight to the UC Berkeley Sagehen Creek Field Station in Lake Tahoe, CA for 2 days of field study on the topics of Biology, Entomology, and Nematology as well as conservation. For Biology Camp II, I spent one week of field study at the UC Berkeley Sagehen Creek Field Station in Lake Tahoe, CA. Academic Talent Search: California State University Sacramento: Blechy Biology: June 20, 2016 – July 8, 2016 This 3 week course gave me exposure to the topics of gross anatomy with the goal of increasing my observational and critical thinking skills necessary to be highly successful in future Biology courses. We began with the study of earthworms and large animal parasites. We learned about the aquatic environment and dissected a yellow perch as well as learned how crustaceans defend themselves and survive their environment. We also compared the differences between vertebrate and invertebrate animals through the study of the internal organs and dissection of crayfish, frogs, and laboratory rats. The Science of Saving Lives: July 24, 2017 – July 28, 2017 This 1 week course introduced me to cellular anatomy and physiology of humans through discussions of the different parts a physical assessment including respiratory, cardiac, neurologic, gastrointestinal, and musculoskeletal systems. We gained hands on experience on how to clean up, care for, bandage, and splint all kinds of simulated injuries and learned life saving techniques such as CPR.
