Personal Statement

Baseball has been a driving force in my life as long as I can remember.  My passion for the game has taught me numerous valuable skills that has provided me with a solid foundation on which to build my life. I take pride in my sportsmanship and team leadership skills.  I value the importance of and my positive interaction with players, coaches and officials.  I strive to be a good role model who positively reflects on my team, my school, my family, and my community.

I am currently a Junior, graduating class of 2023, at Eureka High School in Eureka,CA.  Eureka High School is a large high school in the very competitive North Coast Section (NCS) of California, which also includes Del Norte, Sonoma, Marin, Mendocino, Contra Costa and Alameda Counties. Our program has consistently finished as one of the top ranked teams in the NCS.  Eureka High School also has many academic programs which I’ve been taking advantage of.  Each program of study is a multi-year sequence of academic and technical courses that provide students with a rigorous academic curriculum that integrates academic and career skills, culminating with a senior project or internship.  I have and plan on continuing to enroll in these academic courses.

I envision my college years to be one of my greatest personal growth periods .  My goal is to explore a major that will prepare me for employment in sports management or design field.

My goal has always been to play baseball in college and at the highest level of competition.  As a versatile student-athlete, I believe my skills are getting developed to compete at that level. However, I know I have not met my full potential as a baseball player.  I feel that I strive to be an impact player, always looking at how to help my team win. What I can offer your team is agility, mental toughness, endurance, dedication, baseball knowledge and intelligence. What you get is a player who has the drive, determination, intensity, hustle, and who understands sacrifice and hard work.

I take pride in my community by volunteering my time.  The following is a list of my volunteering services over the past several years.

  • Myles Standish (2023, Eureka, Calif.) is a polished left-handed pitcher. Myles has a short over-the-top delivery which gives his fastball a little more hop than it would for its 80-83 mph. Change is good but does not use it that often. Curve has nice depth to it, and it can be a good pitch with velocities at 59-66. Facing a very good hitting team from Hawaii, Myles pitched like he was 6-foot-5. His line the most impressive of the day; 6 innings, 1 hit, 1 run, 0 walks and 13 strikeouts. He gets the most from his 5-foot-11 build and has good down angle on all pitches from his high delivery slot. Has a very good understanding of pitch sequences and locating. Just was a joy to watch him carve up the hitters. Just 16 years old on the nose, with much maturing to do. The future is bright for this California left-hander.

  • Southpaw Myles Standish collected Pitcher of the Day honors after he logged four hitless frames and struck out eight in a 7-0 win for CCB National against Legacy Baseball Group Gold. Standish, who struck out four of the first five batters he faced, combined with right-hander Paul Montgomery to pitch the shutout. He maintained a 65 percent strike rate and helped lead CCB National to its first win at the National Team Championships Arizona. Standish also contributed on the offensive end in CCB National's second game Wednesday with one walk and one run scored in an 11-3 victory against USA Prime American. https://www.usabaseball.com/news/topic/national-team-champs/carlson-standish-earn-player-pitcher-of-the-day-honors-for-june-16

By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
