Hi,
I would like to tell you a little bit about myself and why I am the right fit for your program.
First, this game has been in my blood since I was born. Maybe that's because my dad played baseball back in the day, but ever since I could talk or walk, I have been playing baseball. My earliest memories are of me in front of the TV with my dad watching MLB Network or a Padres or Angels game and imitating the players on the screen. (I would have my plastic bat and swing at the pitches, we would do diving catches for hours, or we would just sit and watch the game and talk about the strategy of plays.)
I started playing on a team when I was three years old, and have never looked back. As I grew up, my love for the game only increased, and was really the only thing I looked forward to all the time. Even though I went through my share of struggles on the field, I never questioned my love for the game because I knew that the struggles would not last forever and that everybody has to go through them to get better.
Fast forward to the present; I believe that I am a solid ballplayer with a lot of grit and will do what it takes to play collegiate ball at a high-level. It has always been a goal of mine to not only play in the MLB, but to be the best in the MLB. I know that I still have a lot of work to do, but I'm sure that with enough hard work and dedication I can get there.
So let me tell you about who I am today, and how I can help your program. From the time I started playing Little League at the age of 5, I was a catcher. At the age of 7, I then joined the San Diego Stars Baseball Academy, a well-known travel ball team. (I have played on the Stars every year since I was 7, until this year when the Coach formed his own team, OBA Baseball Academy.) Up until I entered high school, my primary position was catcher, middle infield and even some outfield. I think because of my time as a catcher and middle infielder and watching a lot of MLB games which I analyzed with my dad, I have a really high baseball IQ. Since entering high school, and as a result of my coaches complimenting me on my footwork and ability to pick balls, they placed me at second and first base, but I have always had good defensive skills regardless of the position.
You can always rely on me to be a team player, and to leave it all on the field each and every game. I also hold others to the same high standard so we can be the best we can be together as a team. I am starting to hit for power and I also don't swing and miss a lot which means I also don't strike out a lot. If you give me a chance, I promise I won't let you down and will prove to you through my work ethic and performance as to why I deserve that spot more than another guy. I will never lose a spot because somebody worked harder than me.
I hope this helps you understand a little about me, because I know that I am the right fit for your program. Please feel free to reach out if you would like to learn more about me.
Thank you,
Gehrig Syms
