Hello coaches, I am Tony Metaxas Jr, and I have two main goals for college. First, I want to excel academically and do well in the classroom. Being able to be strong academically is important to me, so that is at the top of my list. Second, I want to challenge myself to play well on the field. It's been a dream of mine to play in college ever since I first developed a love for baseball. I've learned life lessons from this sport, and I can say that confidently as a 16 year old. Baseball has taught me to be patient, it's taught me how to take my failures and turn them into lessons, it's taught me to be humble and to have character, and it's also taught me how to be a great teammate.
As a teammate, I have found myself being more of a leader than I am a follower on the team, and I am all about unity. I've played on teams where teammates aren't actually like teammates, where there are cliques on the team, and a team like that doesn't win. Yes, it is okay to hang out with someone else, but if a team isn't after the same goal as a whole, then you won't be winning that game or the championship. I want to win, and a winning team looks like a band of brothers. I have found myself being able to rally and encourage my teammates to get into this mindset, and I hope to continue in college.
More than baseball, what really sets me apart is my faith. Without having my connection with God, I wouldn't be able to see and learn those life lessons I've listed. My goals for college are as I said, education then baseball, but if you were to ask me the way I prioritize things outside of college, Jesus would be at the top of my list without any questions asked. My walk with God effects the way I treat my teammates and coaches, the way I handle tough situations outside of school and baseball, and has formed me into the person I am today.
With the next season coming this spring, I look forward to getting stronger, faster, smoother, and better at my play. Every time I step foot onto the baseball field, I look to challenge myself to do better than I did yesterday, and to keep on pushing when I feel like I've hit a wall.
