I have had very traditional coaches to this point in my baseball career. From them, I have learned the value of hard work and patience. They have also taught me a great deal about handling diversity in both school and baseball.
I spent my freshman year on the freshman team and as the only freshman on the JV team. Although I played regularly on the freshman team, on the JV team, I was rarely used except to pinch hit. On the bench, I learned how to keep my emotions under control. Regardless of problems or my feelings, I learned that it is important to maintain my focus and remember my purpose. I realized that whether I was unhappy with my coach’s decisions, my teammates attitudes, or my own performance, my job was to maintain a positive attitude and support my team.
This outlook carried over into my school experiences as well. My job in school was to work hard, complete my assignments, and respect my teachers, even when I didn’t understand or agree with them. Maintaining control of my feelings, attitude, and words is a skill I will continue to work on and will be an asset to me throughout my life.
During my sophomore year, I was the ace and captain of my team. I worked hard to handle myself in the most professional way I could and had an excellent season doing so. My team won the Mojave River League Championship.
This year, I will strive to grow both on and off the field. I am the prospected number one pitcher on varsity and starting third baseman. I will also continue to represent my school in a positive and respectful manner both academically, by maintaining a high grade point average and athletically, by putting in the required effort and work, and sustaining a positive attitude as well as being a team player.
