I've been playing baseball since I was 4 years old, and my love for the game has only grown since then. I remember rushing home after school to quickly change into my uniform and head to my little league game and hoping that it wouldn't rain that day. This was just the start of a fire being lit that kept pushing me to pursue my passion for baseball.
I believe baseball is one of the hardest sports to play, because it is the only sport I know of where someone is considered successful if they succeed three out of ten times. This is what I love about the game of baseball because to be great, you have to be extremely mentally strong. The "greats" spend most of their time failing, but it is how they stay cool and calm that make them the best. I find this motivating and it is something that I want to be a part of.
My mental toughness was really tested last year when our field that we played on was being reconstructed, but it was not completed by the season. We were stuck playing all our games on the road and did not have a field to practice on. We practiced inside gyms, on a tennis court, and even outside of a patio world store. At times, it was difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel and stay focused with all the places we were practicing at, but the fire inside of me was still burning, and as long as it was lit, I would let nothing stop me. With that said, we ended up winning the North Coast Section Championship and it is one of my proudest accomplishments.
My ultimate goal is to play a sport in college while receiving a meaningful education. It has alway been a lifelong dream to play a college sport, and hopefully I will soon make it a reality.
