Owen Nelson '22 Recruiting Profile

Currently a Junior College Sophomore, looking for a 4-year to transfer too. A little history on me; I started playing when I was 9. I played little league growing up. I was the starting catcher on JV my freshman year at Montgomery High. I made varsity my sophomore year, but season got canceled due to Covid. I was the starting catcher for Montgomery the spring of 2021, which was my junior year and hit well above .300. I then tore my labrum on my throwing side that summer when trying to make a play on a pop up (non-throwing related injury). I got surgery on it September 2021. I was cleared to start my throwing rehab April 2022. I was also cleared to dh a bit the remainder of my senior year, had 20 abs or so. I dhed all summer for the Petaluma Leghorns. It took me most of my first year of college as a grey shirt at Santa Rosa Junior College to get back into playing shape. I started playing fully again summer 2023 for the Petaluma Express. I can't say that summer went that great. I returned to Santa Rosa JC again fall 2023 but ended up transferring to Napa Valley Junior College to play my freshman year. I quickly became a starting and took on the role as a team leader there. I hit in the 3, 4, and 5 hole all year. I split time at catcher with a 3rd year sophomore and played third base when I wasn't catching. I hit .281 overall and .364 in conference with 3 home runs and 9 doubles and made second team all-league in the Bay Valley Conference. I am currently spending this summer focusing on decreasing my pop-time and getting faster and stronger. I am playing some games with the Fairfield Indians as well.
