My name is Kyle Irao. I am a senior attending Silver Creek High School in San Jose, California. I started playing baseball when I was 10 years old. . It was just one of those moments when you watch someone do something cool and you want to try it out for yourself. My sister played softball when she was in middle school so I started playing catch with her. I asked my parents if I could join little league and try out so that I can play. I learned very early about rejection from my first baseball tryout. The coach told my Mom that I was not fit to play in the minor division since I didn't have the right skills. I thought that there was no chance for me to play but my Mom knew I really wanted to play so she talked to the league officers and they gave me another chance to tryout. They put me in the Farm division with 7 year olds at the time who were half my size. It was fun and I didn’t mind playing with younger kids since I had to learn the game first. I started learning more about the game from how to swing the bat and how to pitch all in my first season as a baseball player. I played from the Farm division to the Majors the following season with kids who were my age. There were lots of disappointments and frustrations but I started to become even more interested and excited to play baseball.
My goal is to continue to play baseball in college. I would like to attend college to further my studies and it would be the best thing that I could ever hope for if given a chance to continue playing baseball. I will continue to work hard and grind it out for my team. I am willing to start from the bottom and work my way up. I always believe that hard work will pay off at the end and that’s the philosophy I have been following for my schoolwork and baseball. I do not have the highest grades or the fastest pitch but I know I can contribute to my team when it is expected of me.
