My name is Walter Malcolm. I am entering my senior year of high school in small town on the eastern plains of Colorado. I live on a farm with my parents and younger brother. We raise and show fancy poultry and dairy goats.
Baseball has always been my favorite activity. The only time I questioned my dedication to the game was freshman year of high school. Our third game I was asked to play first base. I had never practiced or played there or even played that side of the diamond. I had 10 errors that game and almost swore off baseball. The next day I realized I needed to study the game and not just PLAY the game. In the end that horrible game just cemented my commitment.
One of the best things about baseball for me is being part of a team. I tend to be shy and reserved when I first meet new people. Before this year I had played with the same teammates since we were 6 years old. Playing travel club ball for the first time taught me to be more confident and speak up more. This next year I am planning to take more college courses offered at my high school with the intention of studying math or statistics in college. I hope to work in baseball as a scout or analyst when I can’t play baseball.
