Baseball is a mentally tough game, and sometimes life interferes and throws you a curve ball when you're expecting a fast ball. I've been playing the sport since I was 7, and when I was in 8th grade life affected my game. I was at the peak of my game, and everything was going up until my brother passed away unexpectedly. I have never experienced such a life-changing moment. It especially affected the way I performed my freshman year. I did not hit or pitch as well as expected, especially since I was being talked up by the Seniors and Juniors.
I knew I needed to change my mental aspect of the game in order to keep playing the game I love. I became a leader for my high school and travel team as a sophomore. My sophomore year my batting average increased and my confidence increased as well. Playing now, I know that I have what it takes to perform at a higher level, and my leadership is part of my game. Not only do I get better, I think my teammates get better when I am around them.
As an upcoming Junior, I know my academics are a priority, so I want to get into college and learn, as well as play the game of baseball. I know I will be able to fit into any program, because now I'm expecting that curve ball that life throws at me.
