My name is Nathan Martin, I play outfield for Sebastian River High school in Sebastian, Florida. I am currently enrolled in the full IB program. My college aspirations are to have an opportunity to play college baseball and grow as a player in order to compete at the next highest level. Academically, my college aspirations are to study sports management and intern with a professional baseball team.
I fell in love with baseball when I was 4 years old. To me baseball is everything. God, family, and baseball has always been the order of how I place my passions in life. Baseball has done so much for me as a person. I want to be able to give that back and honor the game by achieving my dream and make an impact. Because of baseball, I have been able to teach myself how to be a leader, a good teammate, a hard worker, and how to deal with and learn from failure.
The first time I tried out for a school team was in 6th grade. I was cut on the first day of tryouts and I was heart broken but I am so grateful for this because it became my motivation. I knew I had to get better if I was going to continue playing baseball, I practiced and worked out almost every chance I could so I would be ready for tryouts in 7th grade. The hard work paid off as I earned my spot on the team in 7th grade. As years went I’ve kept this motivation to keep working harder and harder so I’d see my name on the starting line up each year up until the 12th grade. However, on June 20th of the summer going into my senior year, came my biggest challenge. I completely tore my PCL and was not able to play throughout the summer and most of fall ball. This injury did not require surgery. Although I was told it would be about half a year until I could run again. I couldn’t let this stop me. I wore the brace needed, worked out, pushed how far my PCL could go every day until September 23rd, the day I proved my doctor wrong. The first showcase I attended after my injury was amazing and I loved being back in game although I ran a 8.00 second 60 yard dash. I have been running and getting stronger and have gotten my 60 time down to a 7.4 along with all of my practice on the field. I have worked so hard to get to the level I am at and I will continue to push myself, work harder, and constantly improve.
Since my sophomore year we have had a very young team and I have been a leader for the younger kids on the team. I take responsibility in making sure that my teammates are pushing themselves and pushing each other. But, mostly I take responsibility in making our team like a family. I used to let my emotions get the best of me when I made an error or got out, but I have grown through that and been able to help some of the younger kids pick their heads up and stay locked in the game. I think I am good candidate for your team due to my persistence, dedication, hard work and leadership and I will give the team everything I’ve got and never give up.
