Personal Statement

For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to play baseball at the collegiate level and beyond. I have committed and worked hard for 13 years to accomplish this goal. As a catcher and middle infielder, I enjoy being a captain on the field. I believe a strong baseball IQ is essential in addition to your physical ability. As a rising junior and eventual 4 year starter on the Maclay School varsity team, I am a vital leader on and off the field. Lifting, throwing, and hitting in the offseason are important aspects of getting better. My school provides the opportunity for me to do all of these year round and I take full advantage of that.

I work on baseball development all year however, I also play other sports (football and soccer) to develop my overall athleticism. I believe the strength, speed and agility from these sports have helped me grow as a baseball player.

Playing baseball is very important to me but my success in the classroom is equally important. An injury can end a sports career in a second, but a degree will last a lifetime. My family has always emphasized the importance of education and my development as a student.

I will be a great addition for any team because of my hard work in the classroom and on the field. I am coachable, always wanting to learn and I understand that there will always be room for improvement.

  • 08/18/2019 - College PREP - St. Augustine , FL This athletic catcher shows a bright future on the diamond with the makings of a special type player at the next level. Offensively, he shows as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. He has athletic/smooth actions with fluid rhythm to load. He gets good hand separation and delivers the barrel with leverage - resulting in a barrel explosion (81 mph exit velocity) with the ball coming off well of his barrel from both sides of the plate. With flexion and good sway he pockets pitches with a soft/sure mitt. He shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process as he is a wall behind the plate. Pop times showed in the 2.06 range with accuracy / on line carry (80 mph velocity) on his throws. With 2 years to further develop, Broedy will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to progress his game.

  • Opened eyes on both sides of the ball via consistent in-game barrels and showing his versatility on defense. Caught in the first game and blocked exceptionally. 2.07-2.12 pop times with a quick arm and good feet. Then he played a stellar shortstop in game 2 making all the routine plays and a diving play up the middle. Ran a 7.16 60-yard dash. Bat to ball skills of the switch hitter are advanced from both sides. Has good launch from backside. Tripled to pull side gap on a 93 mph fastball. Just an all-around solid baseball player that will make an impact wherever he goes at the next level with his ability to play anywhere and do whatever is asked of him. 8/22/19 PBR Florida Staff - The catchers were led by utility player Broedy Poppell who not only stood out defensively, but offensively. Behind the plate he uses he present athleticism and shows feel to receive, block and throw. He also made several plays in the infield. Offensively, the switch hitter has a simple swing with above average bat speed from both sides and showed this with a hard hit triple off of one of the top 2022 arms in the country. 8/15/19 PBR Florida Staff
