In May 2011, I relocated from Virginia to Michigan with my paternal grandmother as my caregiver. During that time she was enrolled in a academic program at Andrews University. This decision paved the way for me to enter into the realm of sports. My first spring experience was completing grade K and entering grade 1 with an interest in Soccer. Although, my soccer interest quickly diminished, my desire for athletics/sports did not. My next attempt was baseball. Joining the 8u team at Greater Berrien Springs Recreation Department in Michigan was the beginning of my baseball journey. Like most teams we had our share of success and defeats. However, I remember most about my time there was the building of relationships with my teammates.
In August 2017, we relocated to the Tampa Florida area. With this transition I brought the following skills-ability to pitch, switch hitting, and right fielder talents. My grandmother made sure that she aligned me with coaches that were consistent, patient and yet firm with their players. Meaning, challenging me to be the best player I can be. Not just my ability to play, but also my ability to influence and to lead. Joining a Little League team, exposed me to experiencing competitive skills along with a better understanding of the game. In order to do so, I had to learn to be open-minded, willing to learn.
Respect- this term has not only been demonstrated by my grandmother, but also by my coaches. I also, wanted to demonstrate that same model. Respect for yourself. Respect your leaders. Respect your teammates. Respect the game.
Although, I have a passion for the sport, I also have the skills to create and build. Perhaps I learned this from my first set of LEGOS. I am looking forward to my continued exploring of my collegiate goals and ultimate decision.
I love my grandmother for her continued support, by motivating and inspiring me to be the best ME, I can be.
