Personal Statement

I will immediately contribute to your program not only through my athletic abilities but also through leadership skills, positive attitude, respect, and desire to be a good role model for others. The death of my young special needs cousin drives me to give 100% in everything that I do. He made me realize that every day and opportunity to step onto the baseball field is a precious gift that should not be wasted. Additionally, the brotherhood that develops with my teammates and love of for the game of baseball is why I want to continue playing the game. Success comes from hard work. My school coach has said that I am a “bring your lunch pail to work kind of guy” because I do not shy away from putting in the work to get the job done. I pledge to give my personal best effort on the field, in training, and in the classroom to contribute to my future college's traditions and winning culture. Academics are important, and I like to be challenged in the classroom. I enjoy learning especially as it relates to my goal of earning a degree in the field of engineering.

Allow me to compete for a spot on your team and you will not be disappointed. I will bring heart, hustle, and drive to your program that cannot be measured by numbers.

  • 5-foot-11 175-pounds. One of the top performers of the weekend. Impressed on the mound and at the plate. On the mound he worked up to 86. Stayed around 83-85 most of his outing. Spin rate was 2100-2200. Really good life and action on the FB. Arm works well in the delivery. Room for the velo to climb if he can get more out of his backside. Only showed the SL a couple of times, but it had a really good break to it. Strong two way player with a high ceiling.

Strong lower half with athletic looks throughout. Ran a 7.52 second sixty yard dash. Primary Catcher starting from a side saddle stance. Reaching for the baseball at times. Hustles at all times. Whippy arm action showing good carry as he threw it 87 mph across the diamond. Secondary Outfielder working well through the baseball going all out with weight through throws. Arm strength present. Simple delivery that proved to be repeatable. Good balance throughout as he went on to attack hitters not shying away from contact. Hides the baseball well out of hand. Fastball topped out at 84 mph showing some cut at times. Mixed in a changeup and slider that he showed good command for getting swings and misses. Projectable on mound. Righthanded hitter starting in a spread out stance with a bat waggle. Front foot lift and puts it right back down. Bat wrap over the helmet before showing quick hands. Bat speed present. Gap to gap type approach. Hustles out of box. Outstanding Student. Named to Southeast Prospect Showcase Top Prospect List.

  • Camp/Event
  • 2019 Baseball Factory All America Preseason Rookie Tournament
  • 1/18/19 to 1/20/19
  • 01/18/2019 - 2019 Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Mac is an athletic C/RHP prospect who showed well at the All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament. Behind the plate, Mac sits in an athletic primary stance and presents a good target to the pitcher. He gets into a low secondary stance and replaces his feet to throw. He makes a two-handed exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws accurate to the 2B bag. Mac is agile moving to block and tucks his chin well. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a square stride. He rotates his core well and makes consistent contact. On the mound, Mac starts with a simple rock step and gathers to a balance point over the rubber. He separates his hands on time and works with a clean arm, staying inline towards the plate. Mac shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 82mph. Breaking ball sits from 68-70mph with late 10-4 break. Changeup sits at 70mph with good arm side run as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Overall, Mac is a talented prospect who will be one to follow throughout his high school career. .333 Batting Average, On Base 5 out of 6 at bats, Pitched 3 innings allowing 1 run
  • Camp/Event
  • Baseball Factory National Tryout Plus
  • 10/28/18 to 10/28/18
  • 10/28/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Peachtree City (Atlanta), GA Mac continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.03 with accuracy and carry on his throws. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. He displays a soft glove and sticks balls well in the zone. He uses his body through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. At the plate, power potential has improved through an open setup. Hands are loose and work to and through the ball at contact, creating extension. He is aggressive and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields, flashing gap-to-gap pop. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 79 mph. Fastball shows a range of 76-79 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with slight arm side run. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength.
  • Camp/Event
  • PBR - 8/11/2018 Peach State Games
  • 8/11/18 to 8/11/18
  • 8/11/2018- Peach State Games "Mac" McCommons is a good looking young baseball player with an excellent frame and life to his body. At the plate he is upright in his approach and creates leverage with his swing. He has a hits our of a wide base and at times wants to get forward to soon, having to slow his bat down to keep it in the zone. As he learns to stay behind the baseball, "Mac" is going to have the ability to drive the ball to all fields. His path is good and looks as though he will be able to do some damage in the future. As he gets stronger look for McCommons to add more power to all parts of his game. Defensively he moves very well behind the plate and shows the ability to move laterally with ease. He is light on his feet and recovers very well on blocked balls. His flexibility is a huge plus for him as he moves forward. You are still having to project strength to his game, but McCommons has the actions that should translate well in the future. Exciting future for this live bodied young backstop.

Medium and young frame with plenty of room to continue to grow and plenty of time to do so. Ran an 8.00 second 60 yard dash. Primary catcher, footwork plays but needs some refining as he continues to mature and quicken, long release gaining ground to target, longer arm stroke through the back, deliberate actions that could be faster getting the ball out, good arm strength for his age that should also continue to improve as he matures, 2.28 second best pop time. Secondary infielder, sits back on the baseball, could work on reading hops, high gather out in front, developing hands and balance at the point of gather. Also pitched at the event, works exclusively from the stretch, compact arm action up to a high 3/4 arm slot, mixed in a pair of pitches in his fastball and cutter, worked both to both sides of the plate nicely. Righthanded hitter, small inverted toe tap into swing, short hand load, long swing path that stays on a line drive plane, some present power that he flashed and should get some improved strength off of the barrel as he continues to fill out. Outstanding student. 8.00 60 YARD DASH 1.76 10 YARD SPLIT 74 IF 71 C 2.28 C POP 76 FB 73-76 FB RANGE Exit Velo 72 mph

  • 1/12/18 to 1/14/18
  • 01/12/2018 - 2018 Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Mac is an athletic and hard working 2022 Catching prospect. Behind the dish, Mac has an athletic primary and secondary set up. He presents a big target and works behind the ball. He leads with his glove and controls the ball with his chest when blocking. Continuing to exchange the ball in front of his body and creating momentum in his legs to throw the ball to the bases will allow him to make more accurate throws. At the plate, Mac loads his hands back into the drive position and keeps a quiet head. He recognizes pitches and shows pull side pop. Continuing to attack the inside part of the ball and keeping his barrel on plane with the ball will allow him to keep a middle approach. Mac will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future. Batted .250 with a .571 OBP

  • 6/04/17 to 6/04/17
  • 06/04/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Kennesaw, GA Mac continues to progress and has clearly worked very hard. Behind the plate, he has an advanced skill set for his age. Setup is quiet and athletic with flexion and sway. He tracks pitches into his mitt and sticks them, framing well. He is quick laterally and bodies up pitches in the dirt. As a hitter, this righty has centered balance and rhythm to load. He whips the barrel with speed through a level path and squares the ball up consistently. On the mound, Mac has a 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot. He keeps his eyes on the target and repeats his delivery. He fills up the zone working the ball in and out. FB has slight run topping our at 67 mph. Breaking ball shows 11/5 shape. Mac is a talented, young prospect who has a ton of upside with a ton of time to develop. He will be a player to keep an eye on in the years to come.
