I acknowledge that it takes more than physical ability to play a team sport. I see myself as a leader who has passion and a positive attitude for the game. I know that I have the ability to make my teammates better as well. I always encourage my teammates to maintain that same positive outlook as we progress through our journey together.
My passion for sports comes from members of my family who have always demonstrated to me their enthusiasm for the active lifestyle. As long as I can remember, I have been outdoors, hunting, fishing, and playing sports, especially baseball. My love for the game of baseball came from hearing stories of my uncle’s achievements as a high school and college baseball player.
My early baseball playing memories really started at the age of nine, with youth baseball travel teams. I saw that competing with others who were better than me made me want to be better too. I was often smaller than many of the players I competed against. That only made me want to improve my skills, which paid off for me as I progressed through each season by winning many awards and All-Star selections.
This early experience has allowed me to identify my strengths both mentally and physically, and why I am truly driven to becoming the best person on and off the field that I can be.
As I began to work with a personal trainer, I gained a greater appreciation for the amount of hard work it takes to be the best. I am always striving to be an improved athlete and continue to challenge myself every day to get better.
As I entered Georgia Military College Prep School, I was the only freshman to make the varsity baseball team. That created some tensions within the team as I was able to replace players with more experience, but often less skills. I was soon able to show that their concerns were unfounded as I established myself a solid player and leader on and off the field. The strong work ethic I exhibited to my teammates and coaches, showed my willingness to always take that next step to improve in all that I do.
During my junior year, I transferred to another school, and was able to step into a starting position at the beginning of the season due to my hard work. I began to work with my current coach, Justin Mills of John Milledge Academy, he challenges me every day to be better. He is always talking with me about the skills needed on the field and how I can improve as a player. He has a history of success as a collegiate level baseball player and uses his experience and knowledge to make me better. I know that by the time I graduate from high school in 2022, I will be well prepared to achieve great things at the next level, wherever that may be.
My dedication to baseball has made me more focused in the classroom as well. I have developed a strong academic foundation in science and math and see myself wanting to study sports medicine in college so that I may use what I’ve learned as an athlete to help other athletes. I understand that I need to prepare myself for a future with and without sports. I believe that sports medicine is an excellent path to retaining this connection and passion with baseball that I’ve always had.
I am looking for a program that can provide me with a positive path both athletically and academically. I am confident that I have the talent and personal drive to be a competitive and impactful player at the next level and for your team.
