I have always enjoyed the game of baseball. Ever since I can remember, I was throwing or hitting the ball in any shape or form that I could. I think my mom may or may not have rubbed off on me a bit, because she played softball in high school and college. However, I have not always enjoyed the game of baseball.
During my junior year I had obtained the yips, and that year was one of the worst years in my life. On top of that, many of my teammates that year were self-centered and our team did not feel like a team at all. I struggled for about a year trying to get rid of the yips. During that time, I thought many a time of quitting and taking the easy way out. Yet, I knew I could not because I love this game too much, and eventually I overcame the yips. Through this experience I learned two things. The first, that you are going to make mistakes, and it is alright because nobody is perfect and you have your teammates to back you up. However, it is what you do after those mistakes and how you learn from them that matters. The second, that if you want something you can’t give up no matter what. If you strive for excellence and make it a habit, you will find success. It may not be right away but it will come. Knowing these two things has helped me tremendously both on the field and off the field. Furthermore, now that I know these things, I believe I can take what I have learned and help better your program. I think if I can share these things through my actions, my work-ethic, and how I perform in the classroom and the baseball field, then I will have a positive impact on your program. Thank you for your consideration.
