My name is ‘Iolana Akau and I am a 5'10 catcher from Waipio, Hawaii. Ever since I was 4 years old, I have loved the game of baseball. When I started playing ball as a kid, I started out as a short stop, but the team needed a catcher. At that time I thought it would be fun so I stepped up to the challenge and took on that role. I was nine when I started as a catcher and I've been catching ever since.
Baseball means the world to me. I have had the opportunity to travel a lot due to baseball. I was successful in the Little World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania (where we won the World Championship) and in my sophomore year in high school, I earned the starting catcher role, I was named the second team catcher for the Interscholastic League of Honolulu and I was also given an honorable mention as a state catcher. Living in Hawaii has allowed me to play baseball all year round. This has enabled me to get better every year.
I am looking for schools that will help me get my degree in Kinesiology. Doing well in school is very important to me. I have been able to keep up with my studies throughout the year and I am active in student government. I would like a school where I can experience college life to its fullest.
