Personal Statement

It would be hard to find a more passionate person about being the best at just about every aspect of his life then me, Keith Kekahimeahemolele Haina.  Family, Church, Academics, and Athletics are some of those passions that I strive to be the best at on a daily basis.  Playing baseball at the collegiate level would be one of those passions and a level that could propel me toward my life goals and aspirations as part of the process of becoming a successful person.

I am the eldest of three children and understand that "ohana" or family is the bedrock of my being.  The unique culture and environment in which I was raised in, affords me to offer a  college program many things that others may not.  I grew up in the church and attend seminary classes everyday at 6-7 am when most students are still sleeping.  I understood at a very young age, as instilled by my parents, that education is what can propel you to your dreams which no one can take away.  Taking that attitude everyday to school is what drives me to be the academic success I am today.  I am a three sport athlete and am a leader on and off the field understanding that "leading by example" is one of the strongest characteristics a student, teammate, or person can posses.

Attending a college or university and give back to it, as much as I took away from it, would be my ultimate goal.  Although I will play at most colleges, the best fit for my values, my baseball ability, and where I have a chance to play at the highest level of competition is where I want to go.   Once the right college or university is found there will be no stopping my drive to satisfy these desires and I will employ my tireless work ethic into succeeding and ultimately graduating and achieving my degree.

  • Camp/Event
  • Junior Day Baseball Prospect Camp and Showcase
  • 6/21/16 to 6/21/16
  • Junior Day is designed for 2017 and 2018 high school graduates. This event is designed for players who just finished their junior year (2017 grads) or are just beginning their junior year (2018 grads). The event is for those players who are focused on becoming college baseball student-athletes. The camp will feature quality instruction from active college coaches in uniform, written evalutions provided by the coaching staff, a Discussion on College Athletics for both players and parents. The camp is open to all 2017 and 2018 high school graduates and is restricted in enrollment. Players who graduate high school in 2019 are eligible to register but must understand the prospect event is designed for the older players. The player-to-coach ratio will not exceed 8:1. The camp is in compliance with all NCAA rules. ALL PLAYERS WILL RECEIVE: Instruction from all coaches attending the event. A written evaluation to take home with them at the end of the event. Opportunities to ask questions and get to know the college coaches. One-on-one and small group instruction. An open discussion about the NCAA recruiting process, rules, and regulations (parents are encouraged to either stay or come back for this segment. Questions are encouraged as to help answer questions and bust myths about the recruiting process).EVALUATION: Each player will receive a written evaluation as well as a verbal evaluation from the different levels of college baseball represented at the camp. Coaches will evaluate each player based on their experiences at their level of college baseball and give immediate feedback. This will allow each participating baseball player the opportunity to get a much clearer idea of where their skills may fit at the college level. The evaluation is designed to be informative but not restrictive. Each Junior Day Regional can differ slightly when it comes to the written evaluation but generally speaking players will be evaluated in areas of the game such as: arm speed (velocity), ball exit speed off of bat, running speed, and throwing accuracy. Players will also be instructed in improving the skills areas that they are having evaluated. Players will be provided with information that they can use to compare and contrast where they stand with current college baseball players. Players will be either be handed their evaluation before leaving Junior Day or it will be emailed to them in pdf format. WHY IS IT A CAMP AND A SHOWCASE?: Well, because it's the best of both worlds. Players want to showcase their skills to coaches but they should also want to learn from the coaches. Coaches want to evaluate players and their skills so they can teach them appropriately, just like they do with their own players. Coaches also want to see how players react to new instruction, new techniques and how they socialize with peers and other coaches. The College Coaches at Junior Day are on the field and in uniform. Just like they are for their own practices and games. The Pitching / Catching Session will run from 8:00 am until 11:00 am. The Infield / Outfield Session will run from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The Hitting Session will run from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. All campers and their parents from every session should attend the Recruiting Discussion held at 11:00 am. Each Session will consist of instruction in the following areas; Skill work, Strength work, Mental training, and Education about the recruitment process. All skill work is in small groups and one-on-one and will be age specific. The cost of the camp will be $150 for one session, $275 for two sessions or $325 for three sessions. Space is limited. These sessions are expected to fill quickly. Our goal for a player-to-coach ratio is 6:1 but will not exceed 8:1. THE COLLEGE ATHLETICS EDUCATION SEMINAR: The College Athletics Education Seminar will be held during camp and is for all members of the family. The seminar will last approximately a 45-60 minutes. The discussion will cover topics like: The NCAA Recruiting Rules, How to Promote Yourself, What Coaches Look For, The Best Way to Make a Video, What to Expect Playing College Athletics and How to Talk to College Coaches. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and will come out of the event having a much better idea of What College Athletics is All About. Parents and players are encouraged to ask questions during the discussion. JUNIOR DAY IS RUN BY CURRENT COLLEGE COACHES PITCHING / CATCHING SESSION - 8:00 am - 11:00 am This session will include advanced instruction and problem solving on all aspects of pitching including mechanics, pitch variation, delivery tempo, and adjustments to improve command. During the skill sessions, pitchers will be divided into small groups, with all bullpen work being done one-on-one with the various coaches.
