William R. Moore
I plan to go to college for civil engineering. I believe it’s the career path for me. I find it very interesting and I have a cousin who is an engineer. The incident that sparked my interest was a television show about bridges and other projects that had the potential of collapsing. I knew what went wrong before the cause was said on the show. I was extremely interested. I believe it takes leadership abilities to become a civil engineer which I feel I have. One example of my leadership abilities is that I am the captain and catcher of the varsity baseball team at Thornton. I lead the team into the games and have the perfect view of the field to direct and anticipate plays. I always strive to be the best and to give positive encouragement to the other players. I like to lead by example not just verbalizing what others should do. I take pride with maintaining good character and standing by my word. I am a calm and collected person and feel I work well under pressure. An example of this is from my freshman year when I won the baseball game in the bottom of the ninth inning. I hit a single that allowed the runner on third base to score winning the game. Another example is completing a group project when my partner took ill and missed class. I finished it on my own and we still got a good grade.
I am from Chicago, IL and was born September 6, 1997 which was two months early. I had to have a hernia repair soon afterwards but thrived ever since. I am the only male child in my family with two sisters, one older and one younger. My home life is great. I love my family and they love me. I wouldn’t change it for the world.
I like to think I am very successful at Thornton. I’ve had a great four years. During my freshman year I was on the varsity baseball team playoffs and I was starting varsity during my sophomore year. I made all conference during my junior year. My interest is mostly baseball and collecting quarters from different states, which are fun to learn about.
My college choice is one that has a good engineering program in which I may be able to obtain at least a bachelor degree if not a masters. I also prefer to stay close to home but my Mom always says she can get me back home from anywhere!
