2021 HighlightsPersonal Statement
I think of myself as a pretty common teenager. I enjoy school, socializing with my friends, spending time with my family, and in particular as my father would say I especially like anything involving a ball such as soccer, basketball, football, and baseball.
Baseball in particular though has become the center of my athletic activities. On a baseball field, and in particular on the mound, I feel at home and I really enjoy the battle within the game of baseball between the pitcher and hitter. At the center of that battle is where I know in my heart and mind, I want to be at every opportunity all the while facing the best competition possible. In my playing career I have generally been the starting pitcher late in tournaments and in playoff games, and will occasionally close out a few tight games. This certainly reflects my desire to want the ball when the game is on the line.
Beyond baseball I believe I want to help others enjoy in some way the thrill I experience getting to play a game. I umpire and referee, in particular for younger children, and I have helped with a baseball league that is for developmentally challenged individuals which leads me to the career path I would like to pursue in College of becoming a teacher and coach.

- Jack Buckalew is a 2023 RHP/OF with a 5-10 190 lb. frame from Monticello, IL who attends Monticello. Medium frame and sturdy build with strength. Primary right-handed pitcher with a medium leg lift and a short, online stride down the hill. Utilizes a compact arm circle and comes from a high three-quarters slot, lacks extension at times. Fastball is straight with good ride through the zone, did a nice job of filling up the zone and attacking batters with the fastball. Curveball has 11-5 shape, flashing 12-6 shape at times, with depth and teeth. Gained feel for the pitch as the outing went on, proved he could land it for strikes. Gets a bit slurvy when he rushes it, but still maintains tightness. Also flashed a changeup, maintained his arm speed when throwing it, showed slight fade. Secondary outfielder who moves well laterally, fields the ball cleanly out front and continues his momentum towards the target, has obvious arm strength present. Right-handed hitter with a slightly open stance and a leg lift trigger. Coils back deep, shows a very flat bat path and tends to cut off the stroke, rather than reaching extension. Rigid/segmented operation at present, repeats it well and shows some pull side pop. Good student. Named to the 2022 National Indoor Showcase Top Prospect List.

- Jack Buckalew is a 2023 RHP/ with a 5-10 190 lb. frame from Monticello, IL who attends Monticello. Medium frame with solid, strong build; ran 60 yard dash in 7.55 seconds. Primary righthanded pitcher, medium-length arm stroke to 3/4 slot with solid arm speed and clean path, lands online and gets over front side well, pitches with attack mentality, fastball worked 82-84 mph with straighter action, showed slider with good tilt and late bite, also throws curveball with 11/5 shape and good depth, solid 3 pitch mix with consistent strikes. Took defensive reps in the outfield, waits back on it two-hand glove actions, clocked up to 84 mph on throws. Good student, named to 2022 Chicago Indoor Showcase Top Prospect List.
