Personal Statement

My name is Kyle S. Odeshoo (Class of 2022), I am 6’1" and 195 pounds. I am currently attending and playing baseball at Harper Community College, Palatine, Illinois (Freshmen).

I started playing baseball at the age of five. At a young age I realized that I had a love and passion for the game of baseball. My primary position is catcher, and I also play first base, but can play anywhere on the field as I love all aspects of the game.

As a student-athlete, my schoolwork is always my top priority. I take pride in my school work and studies, and believe that this has been a key factor in my work ethic in learning the game of baseball. I have always been a very good student when it came to academics and, while at Prospect High School I had taken honors and advanced classes, and had a 3.9 GPA. I was also a member of the National Honor Society.

Catching is my passion, and I've have had the opportunity to work with many coaches, and current/former college catchers, and attend advance catching camps. Every coach has shared their knowledge and current techniques that they use in their practices, to help me become a better player. I know as a catcher there are many different responsibilities that you have to excel at: receiving is the most important, controlling the running game, blocking, and being a great “field general”. My secondary position is first base, and I make sure that I do not neglect my skills there as well. I believe my catching skills of receiving has helped me at my secondary position as well. I also work very hard in the weight room and on my running/agility because I believe it's essential becoming a better overall player and this has allowed me to become more athletic.

As a student or a player, I welcome the opportunity to help others in the classroom or on the field. Many of my high school teachers had asked if I could a help another student who is struggling in the classroom. I accepted this and enjoyed helping others. The same is for baseball, as I am always learning the game through coaches or videos. I’m always willing to give advice or insight to others or just talk about baseball with my teammates.  Throughout my life, I’ve learned that you cannot expect anything, and you have to work hard to achieve such goals.  I am hardworking, humble, 100% team oriented, and will do whatever it takes to win or achieve the team goals.

As far as where I would like to attend college, my school choices are open to anything that is high level and competitive. I am undecided on what type of degree(s) I would like to earn, but I am interested in the business, financial, and economic area of studies.  It would be an honor to play at any level, and I realize the commitment and dedication that goes with being a college athlete.  Whatever level I would play,  it would be special and an honor to play at the next level and I welcome whatever opportunity that comes my way, because my ultimate goal is to continue to play baseball at the highest level.

My family has also been a huge influence in shaping me into the person I am today. I’m a very hard-working individual, and don’t give up on things until I have learned how to understand the issue/problem.  The harder you work at something allows you to enjoy the results, both in the classroom and on the field.  I realized everything has to be earned in life, and what you do in the past only gives you the knowledge to succeed in the future. Hard work, dedication, and listening to those who have wisdom and knowledge will help you reach your goals in life. Also making sure you give 100% in whatever you do is a huge determinant of the outcome you desire. So, whether its playing baseball, Spike Ball, working out or running. I always give 100% to ensure I get the outcome I want.

Thank you for taking the opportunity to look at my profile. I look forward to hearing from you and welcome any inquiries into my athletic goal of playing baseball at the college level.
