Cristian Ruiz '23 Recruiting Profile

Hello, my name is Cristian and I am senior middle infielder/ pitcher attending Oak Lawn Community High School in Oak Lawn Illinois. At a very young age my father instilled in me that nothing comes easy, If there is something in life you really want and are willing to put in the work, you can achieve it. My father also taught me to never be satisfied and always keep striving to be better in anything you do in life. This is something I believe in and have lived by  those words in my head for the past 13 years. Playing baseball and winning is my passion which is why I am willing to do whatever is needed of me from my coaches and as one of the team captains on my HS team, I lead by example. I love this game and every time I step on that field I still have that feeling I did when I stepped on it for the first time. I will continue to work as hard as I can athletically as well as academically to be the very best that I can be. My primary position is as a shortstop and my velo across the diamond is 90 mph. As a pitcher,  I throw a 2 and 4 seam fastball along with a knuckle curve and a circle change and am also developing a slider. My velo as a pitcher topped out this summer at 87 mph and I am continuing to work hard to increase that velocity as well as becoming a better overall pitcher. At the moment, my GPA is 3.5 but my goal is to finish my HS career with a 4.0 GPA. Although I would love to make it to the show one day, if that doesn’t work out I’ve always wanted to be an engineer so a college with a good engineering program would be really cool.
