My name is Sean Moore. I have been playing various sports since I was old enough to join organized teams and baseball quickly became my favorite sport. My passion is to compete at the highest level of baseball my ability will allow and to be the best student, teammate, player, and person that I can be. Baseball has taught me so many things with one of the most important lessons being that when situations are not what I would like them to be, I have both the opportunity and ability to change the situation.
When I began playing baseball, I realized that to reach my goals it was going to require a significant level of effort, practice and hard work to maximize my potential. I am fortunate that I have been able to take individual lessons and my instructors have the experience that has helped me to continue to grow. My hitting instructor for the past several years has worked in both the Marlins and Brewers organizations and has shared insights he picked up from some of the best in the game with me regarding the approach to at bats. These insights about technique, work ethic and approach have helped me tremendously. My pitching instructor is a current college pitching coach and has provided me with insights to the game both from a technique and a mental aspect that have helped my development as well. Both of these coaches have told me my work ethic is among the best and I have the ability to play at a high level.
What both of my instructors and my coaches have taught me and impressed upon me is the level of commitment it takes to play at the highest levels. I have learned that to be the best I can be, I have to enjoy the process of getting better. It is not about just playing the game but you must enjoy the work that it takes to be successful. I truly enjoy the behind the scenes work it takes to be able to produce during the game.
I have had the opportunity in my baseball career to play up in age for travel as well as be a starter for my varsity team every season of high school. I have played against players in travel that were already college baseball pitchers/position players as well as several high level commits in high school and I have been successful. This experience along with the support of my coaches and instructors has made me very confident that I have much to offer at the college level.
I am looking for a university/college that will challenge me academically so I will be prepared for life after baseball. My initial thoughts are to pursue a degree in Business focusing on Accounting or Finance but I am open to other career paths. From the baseball perspective, I am looking for an opportunity that will challenge me and to continue my development as a player, teammate and to continue play the game I love.
Thank you for taking the time to read my statement.
