My parents and grandparents have heavily influenced who I am. From a young age I learned that loyalty and hard work are valuable characteristics to have.
As I was growing up my parents made sure I was always involved in some kind of activity throughout the year. I always had plenty of energy, and being an only child, my parents wanted to make sure I had a chance to interact with other kids. Not wanting to limit me to just one particular activity my parents exposed me to a variety sports: baseball, basketball, gymnastics, swimming, football, running, and tennis. From the ages of 3-12 I had participated in all of these events. However, the only sport that has been a constant is baseball. While I have lettered as a freshman and sophomore in tennis, baseball is the only sport that I am truly enamored with.
I started playing baseball at three. My dad and I would hit in our backyard and I fell in I love with hitting the ball and chasing it. Over the years my love and exposure of the game would only grow. My dad loves baseball. He played in high school and college, and has coached high school and junior legion. My uncle played high school and college baseball, currently is the head baseball coach at Terre Haute South Vigo H.S. Then, my oldest cousin, played high school, college, and minor league baseball. In addition, my grandfather was a high school baseball coach for over twenty years. For me, because of my family, I have had plenty of opportunities over the years to learn the game, how to work hard, and how to be a good teammate.
I am very competitive and this quality has served me well in the athletic arena and classroom. While I am competitive I am also friendly, have a good sense of humor (I like to laugh and be with my friends/teammates) and enjoy helping others.
Many people in my family are educators. My mother is a middle school English teacher and my father is a high school assistant principal. I have a grandmother who is a retired elementary teacher, a grandfather who is a retired chemistry teacher, two aunts who are elementary teachers, and an uncle who teaches high school technology. As one would think, academics, being a part of the school community, and helping others has always been at the core of what I do.
Academically, my goal is to finish high school with at least a 3.7 grade average. I take college level and advanced classes as I feel this will prepare me to be successful in college. While I have not taken the SAT yet I have recently started to think about it. I will likely take it in my junior year and hope to at least get 1100.
My parents have always expected me to go to college and have told me they will support me all along the way. While I am not certain as to what I want to major in, I do think it will be along the lines of business accounting/management or some thing with helping young kids or the elderly. As a result of my summer job, teaching tennis to younger kids, I have found I enjoy helping youth. Although, I have also been fortunate to volunteer at the Helping Hands in Terre Haute through Key Cub. I've volunteered many hours and have really enjoyed meeting and helping with the elderly/aging individuals.
I also feel that being a student-athlete helps me stay organized and manage my time. I am committed to play at the highest level in my tennis matches and baseball games. I feel that being a multi-sport athlete is good for me. The drills and exercises I do during tennis have helped me improve my baseball game while the drills and exercises I do during baseball have helped my tennis.
For years, my dream has been to play baseball at the highest level of college that I can. I am a person who tries hard, works hard, and loves to win. I think my coaches and teammates would say they can count on me to give good effort each day at practice and in games.
While I am uncertain what the recruiting process is all about and how it will play out, I am certainly wanting to play baseball at the next level.
