My name is Brody Lamp. I am 6’ tall and weigh about 170 lbs. I was born and raised in Des Moines, IA and I am currently a senior at Abraham Lincoln High School. I primarily play the outfield positions and pitch, but can also play 1st base because I have quick footwork and have an accurate and strong throwing arm.
I have been playing baseball since I was 4 years old and started playing tournament ball at 5 years old. At 14 years old, my tournament team, Tribe, won the 14U AAA State Tournament in Iowa and I was the winning pitcher of record. And, I was playing with a broken bone in my pitching hand and didn’t know it. I believe this is very good example of my commitment to my team and the game.
During my Sophomore year, I joined Clutch Performance Academy (Clutch) in Kansas City, KS because of my desire to continue playing baseball beyond high school and improving my skills. During my sophomore year, I played with both my high school team and Clutch and was able to balance the demands of both teams. However, for my Junior year, I made the difficult decision to play only for Clutch because the number of games and travel demands were such that I didn’t feel it would be fair to the coaches and players of my high school team for me not to be there 100% of the time.
Beyond learning from all of my coaches, I have also continually taken pitching lessons from Pete Blake owner of The Yard in Indianola, IA and brother of former pro-player Casey Blake. I can throw four different pitches for strikes. They are the four-seam fastball, two-seam fastball, circle change, and curveball. I feel comfortable throwing any of those pitches on any count. I have also taken hitting lessons from Zach McCool, owner of MVP Sports and former 3rd baseman for the University of Iowa.
Baseball is a passion for me because I don’t feel like you can ever really learn everything about it. I feel like I learn something from each and every coach and player that I meet. I am a student athlete that participates at every practice and goes to school every day. I work to develop relationships with each of my teachers and coaches.
I am currently interested Exercise Science, Sports Management, or Business Management as possible majors, but have not finalized my decision.
I believe that one of the most exciting things about me is my ability to continually learn and grow. I am currently training 3 days a week to decrease my speed time on my 60-yard dash. I expect my arm and bat velocity to increase with the work that I am putting in and am excited for what that may mean for my future.
