Connor McDermott '18 Recruiting Profile

    For as long as I can remember baseball has been a passion of mine. From the day I started playing in first grade my love for the game has continued to grow. Every Kid from our small town dreams of playing on Jenk Field for our legendary coach, Tom Jenk.  Dyersville has always been a baseball town and every year our varsity baseball team has state tournament aspirations. Being the starting pitcher as a sophomore in the state tournament was one of my greatest achievements as a baseball player.  Although we did not win, I feel that the experience made me stronger as a player and person. This experience showed me that I need to work harder in the offseason and continue to expand my knowledge of the game.

    It has not taken me long to realize that while individual skills are important, team leadership is equally important. One of my greatest attributes is knowing that my team looks up to me and counts on me to be a leader on and off the field. I would love nothing more than to continue my baseball career at the collegiate level.  Although baseball is a very important part of my life, I take my academics just as seriously.  I maintain a 4.0 GPA while taking many college and AP classes.  I've done all of this while participating in four sports my entire high school career.  I feel these activities have made me a more rounded and well-balanced individual.  I plan on using these skills to make sure the college of my choice is the right fit for me.
