"No facilities/ No problem" - I attend the smallest level of high school in northwest Kansas. The academic opportunities and staff of my school are limited, but I have been able to start on varsity sports teams - for all four years on my career. The athletic facilities in my town are even more limited. With a dirt track and even more limited practice facilities/weight room (my town doesn't have a baseball diamond, asphalt track or golf course) - I drive over 20 miles (round trip) to participate and practice in all of these sports. Of all the opportunities (practices and games) that sports has provided me with - a consistent and healthy schedule has been important. Overall, I feel that sports provides players with a purpose/a drive. I want to continue having such a purpose /drive (beyond my high school academic career) in college.
"Going to Bat" - During COVID-19 shut-downs, sports - especially baseball - was the ONLY activity that brought me and my friends together face-to-face. I am so thankful my local and regional coaches fought to keep that 2020 summer baseball season alive and well for us, the players. Our coaches figuratively and literally "went to bat" for their team to have a season that summer. I want to have that same, close community of players - as friends - during college. It also taught me that winning or losing isn't as important as getting to play in the game.
I hope you will consider me as a player for your college baseball or golf team. Continuing to compete in sports would continue to give me a healthy schedule, purpose, and provide me with the opportunity of working with teammates toward a common goal.
Thank you,
Foster.
