College Essay
Helping others in need has always been a big part of my life. I grew up in a Christian family; going to church and service events was just second nature for me. After my freshman year of high school, I was able to travel to Chicago to serve on a mission trip. I had never been to a troubled urban center before like Chicago, so this trip really opened my eyes to how many people need help with the basic things that we all take for granted. The past two summers I have been lucky enough to be able to serve once a week at Children’s Mercy Hospital here in Kansas City. This past summer I was a casting technician assistant in the orthopedic rooms. I often volunteer helping children because I feel like I can make a bigger impact on their lives than if they are already grown up. These service opportunities, along with my job that I have had for over a year, have taught me how to have a good work ethic when people are counting on you to get the job done. That work ethic has transferred over to my school work as well as this year I was named an AP scholar, have been a part of NHS, and have been on the 4.0 honor roll all three years of high school. I am looking forward to furthering my education and becoming a successful part of society.
