I want to succeed in academics and athletics in college to the highest extent my potential will allow. Academics - both quality of instruction and my personal achievement - will directly impact how I am positioned for my future career. Excellent education also will make me well-rounded and better able to have perspective on challenges I will face in the future. I believe I have a great work ethic as evident by my academic and athletic achievements thus far.
Specifically, I have had straight A's through two years of high school while taking several honors classes. Athletically, I tried out for the Freshman baseball team in 8th grade and was nowhere near good enough. I worked almost daily on improving my baseball skills and a year later made the Freshman team. Continuing to work on pitching, throwing, hitting and fielding, I made the varsity team this past spring as a sophomore. The head coach commented in 20 years, he had not seen a player improve in a two year time span like I had.
Playing baseball enables me to be part of a team competing for a common goal. I enjoy the experience of interacting with teammates as much as the competitiveness of playing baseball. In baseball and anything I pursue to excel, I will always look to improve and stay humble while at the same time being confident in my skills and abilities based on my successes. I have found baseball to be a special and incredibly enjoyable opportunity for me to improve and excel in an athletic setting and be part of a team experience and look forward to continuing this in college.
