Personal Statement

Hi

My name is Josh Kopetski Thornton Academy class of 2023 aspiring student athlete.

As a freshman starting my high school career I am just beginning to think about college. My goals would be to attend a college that a coach and teammates find me as a good fit and as I find them. I hope to demonstrate that I have the ability to be a good student athlete no matter where baseball takes me. My GPA is 3.0, I run a 8.3 for the 60 yard. 82 fastball with a 75-77 change up and curve. I am working with the River Rats at Hitters count for the off-season for training.

Josh Kopetski

  • 7/08/20 6-foot, 155-pound left-handed pitcher who is progressing very nicely for the graduate class of 2023. Look for him to make a significant jump in the coming year. The fastball sat 78-79 mph with arm side action to it. The spin pitch is big in shape, sitting 63-64 mph, needs added fastball hand speed to the pitch. The changeup is a 72-73 mph and needs a spin fix. The delivery has minimal crossfire to it and the slot is slightly above 3/4. The lift is repeated, turns back to the hitter and hides the ball relatively well. The arm works free and long. He needs to keep the same hand speed on all his pitches, as he slows his hand down on his secondary stuff. Good looking arm from Maine

  • Josh Kopetski 2023 — LHP / RF Boston Pro Combine — 03/07/20 - 03/07/20 Evaluation By: Rick Arnold HT: 6' 0" WT: 160.00 B: Left Hits: Left Travel Team: Maine Lightning High School: Thornton Academy PITCHER Lo Hi Fastball 76 Low 81 Hi Range:77-79 Lower release point aids some deception. Fastball Quality Small sink and tail movement. Curveball 62-64 Slider 62-64 Changeup 69-73 Maintains arm speed. Straight control. Around zone with all pitches. Slightly funky adds some deception. Rick Arnold Slender, medium frame. Trim hips and waist. Room to fill and get stronger. Pitching: No windup delivery, 3/4 arm angle. Long arm action has some quickness. Throws slightly across body, vaults over stiff front leg. Slight funkiness adds some deception. Sink and tail movement on FB, keeps it down. Slows arm and body on flat, slurvy CB. Maintains arm speed on straight CH. Around zone with all pitches. D2 type starter. Hitting: Straight away stance, Short stride to closed. Uppercut swing plane. Lean back approach, loft on ball. Opens early trying to pull too much. Gap type power. DEVELOPMENT NOTES Ken Harvey / Bill Bliss / Jon Moscot / Jon Moscot Ken Harvey Wrap around the body load followed by a wrap around swing path. Use the batting box line in front of your stance to follow the hands, and body on during your load. Legs on the backside have an uphill approach which doesn’t give you the support you need for the power you desire. Focus on it going down, and through the baseball. Discipline up top during the load with a more level swing path and a more aggressive lower half will give you immediate increase in potential as a hitter. Bill Bliss Thin, long, projectable frame. 3/4 upright release. Small crossfire. Good separation and good angle to delivery. Repeats well for age. Fastball has some late life. Breaking ball is sweepy and will get loose. Change up is firm, but has good arm speed. Will land stiff on front side and lose balance. Needs to drive down target line and get out over front knee. Does many things correct and has some feel for strike zone. Lots of upside here, on the right path. Jon Moscot The left handed hitting freshman posted an average exit velocity at the combine of 73mph off the bat with a maximum exit velocity of 80 mph and showed an innate ability to stay connected well bat to body at contact with the ball. The connection at impact metric grades out how well a player is able to maintain the 90 degree relationship between their spine angle and bat where they make contact with the ball and it goes to tell where the holes in their swing are, inside or outside pitches. Josh does a solid job not creating holes in or out for himself. But he does not do a solid job eliminating the holes up in the zone for himself specifically and this is a major are that can be addressed to make him a more consistent and powerful hitter. In order to address this, Josh should look to bring his early connection ratio closer to 90 degrees as well. Early connection is the relationship of the barrels angle to the spine angle when the knob is initially brought down into the swing plane. Right now, Josh finds himself at 109 degrees of early connection. From this upright bat position he then has to make the adjustment to bring his bat down to 90 degrees and manipulate it back onto the swing plane and into the hitting zone to catch up to pitches in different locations. Not only does it add movement, but the added movement then gets Josh off plane far more than he should be where he averaged 46% plane efficiency. The optimal range is 70% and above and he’s nowhere near that meaning he will be less consistent at making solid contact. Addressing early connection to fix plane are two areas to focus. Lastly, with bat speed being the single biggest determiner of success at the high school and collegiate levels, it’s advised Josh continue to work his overall strength and train to increase his bat speed utilizing underload and overload bat training. Better bat handling skills will also lead to higher plane efficiency scores. A young athlete with plenty of room to improve and become a prospect. Jon Moscot Big and tall Freshman left hander with a projectable frame and a feel for the zone. Creates excellent downhill angle (steep vertical approach angle) at home plate and it’s highly recommended he utilize pitching at the bottom of the zone with his fastball with his steep angle and high release slot. He averaged 77-80 mph at the combine, very strong showing velocity wise on a cold day with difficult surroundings. Spin rate was low at a peak of 1746rpm but helps contribute to him pitching at the bottom of the zone and is not anything he needs to worry about. Continue to improve athletically, was stiff on the mound. Focus to increase range of motion muscularly total body so the delivery becomes more loose and there is more whip to add velocity and stay healthy. No BB at the combine to grade. CH averaged 71-72mph and fell at an average spin rate of 1350rpm. CH has proper velocity difference off of fastball, but movement profile is not where it needs to be currently because the spin direction shows the ball wants to cut on him. A spin direction between 12:00-1:00 means that he’s not pronating properly or not throwing this pitch with the proper grip and therefore the ball s remaining elevated and doesn’t have a chance to drop off the table or fade away to a righty. Work to get spin direction back closer to 9:30 by emphasizing pronation and experimenting with different grips. CH will be a huge pitch for him, this is a big left handed prospect with plenty of ability, exciting to see where he is in high school.
