Personal Statement

It was obvious to everyone that, at the age of 4, I was born to play baseball. I've always been fast, thrown long distances, and able to focus on the game. Throughout the years I've played for many travel ball clubs, but it wasn't until I joined Southern Maryland Sting that I learned what it means to be a part of a team--and family. With the help of my coaches, I've learned where to focus what I'm good at: pitching, catching, or second base, and also some outfield. With my team, I've learned to encourage where needed, and lead when necessary. All of this combined has led us to championship after championship. We are the team to beat.

Baseball has become a year-round sport; there's no slowing down for the fall or winter. Three days a week are devoted to further my training: batting, pitching, and catching. Spring is for the Chopticon Braves, and summer is for SoMD Sting. While the Chopticon coaches are determined to recruit me for other sports--track, basketball, and/or football--my focus remains true to baseball. My goal is to find a college that will build on the athletic heart and dedication I've found these past few years with my Sting family.

Events

  • Camp/Event
  • Planet baseball
  • 8/05/17 to 8/11/17
  • Played in Puerto Rico for a week. I learned a lot from Coach Quinn and the rest of the college coaching staff, it was a great opportunity to play against other athletes from another country and to play with other athletes from around the United States.
  • Camp/Event
  • Baseball factory National tryouts plus
  • 10/16/16 to 10/16/16
  • Jackson showed as a RHP/2B at the event and continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a well above average runner at 7.19. In the MIF, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls but will benefit by playing through balls with his body. He shows off his athletic abilities on feeds / turns of the double play. At the plate, hitting / power potential have improved through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work to and through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will continue to improve as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 67-70 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup showing a feel for pitch. He throws a slider that resembles breaking ball. Developing more arm strength through a long toss program will aid in further development on the mound.
  • Camp/Event
  • Baseball factory national World Series
  • 7/14/15 to 7/18/15
  • Jackson is a lean catcher that will graduate in 2019. Foot speed is solid as indicated by his 7.32 60 time. At the plate is where he shows best through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times show a range of 2.36-2.79 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the ball quicker. Receiving / blocking skills show as playable tools as he continues to develop and get more reps. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, loves to compete, and displays plus instincts behind the plate. Jackson has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.
