Rhett Spell '20 Recruiting Profile

I have loved the game of baseball since I was introduced to the sport at the age of four. One of my biggest dreams has always been to play baseball in college. My story is a little different from most because my father was an active duty ARMY pilot. We were never stationed in the same town, much less the same state, which is a real challenge in competitive baseball.  I’ve been alive for 7 of the 13 moves. The challenge was always trying to find a permanent fit in a local baseball program. These challenges helped prepare me for adversity and I believe, makes me a more valuable and flexible player.  For example, I’ve received coaching from many different coaches with varying coaching styles and backgrounds.  I was afforded multiple opportunities to be groomed for different positions on the field.  But ultimately , it taught me patience, communication and leadership skills on and off the field.  

I am passionate about baseball and will continue to be the hardest worker on your team. My drive does not stop on the field. I am an eager learner on the field and in the classroom. In school, I want to continue to maintain or raise my 4.1 GPA.  I haven’t backed down from challenging STEM classes  and have already been approved for further challenging ones my senior year.  I am involved in my community and was selected to participate in the Chamber of Commerce Leadership program. 

Another Varsity sport I enjoy and am currently state level decorated in, is swimming.  I feel like being a swimmer helps me bring a whole new level of competitiveness to the game of baseball.
